Pierre's lifetime interest in body modification including piercing was at the root of BLACK SUN Studio's beginnings in 1990, and Black Sun's ongoing commitment to challenge inadequate industry standards. Pierre has a broad scope of interests and professional research, beyond the practical application of piercing, which contribute to his unique approach to all aspects of the piercing experience. Pierre Black has been the premier name in Montreal for avant-garde body arts/body modification in both private and public forums; Pierre Black was first to offer the Montreal public at large a glimpse of the previously underground phenomena of body/exotic piercing, various other forms of body modification, body ritual, and sensual body play, though live performances and events. Extensively traveled, Pierre has offered guest piercing services, training, and resourcing to studios as far away as Iceland and South America, and has achieved international recognition. Pierre regularly participates in documentaries and institutional research projects. Pierre's frequent media participation has served as a forum for his ongoing commitment to intelligent industry-specific regulation of the piercing business, and the improvement of public awareness toward safe body modification.
